3 Days Nyungwe Rwanda Experience
This 3 Days Nyungwe Rwanda Experience : will take you to Nyungwe Forest National Park home of the biggest population and diversity of primates in Rwanda. Currently there are over ten (10) species including large troops of the Rwenzori colobus monkeys and chimpanzees, in addition to over 295 species of birds, butterflies plus orchids. Nyungwe Forest National Park is found in the South Western part of Rwanda. It is bordered by the Rwanda-Burundi border in the South. Lake Kivu and the Democratic Republic of Congo lie on the west side of the park. It covers an area about 1020 sq.km and has an elevation of 1600-2950m above sea level.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival Transfer to Nyungwe
Today you will arrive at the airport where a representative from Great Nest Image Safaris will welcome you, brief you about the tour, and then transfer you to Nyungwe National Park were you will have dinner and spend this night.

Day 2: Primate Tracking in the verdant Forest
Early morning you will enjoy your breakfast and then set out on a guided adventure in the forest look for the different primates living there. Among the species you may see are: Chimpanzees, golden monkeys, Silver Monkeys, golden monkeys, Grey-cheeked Mangabeys, vervet monkeys, Hamlyn’s Monkeys, Olive Baboons, Angola Colobus, Dent’s Mona Monkeys, Red-tailed Monkeys as well as the L’Hoest’s monkeys. You will also see several birds such as the paradise flycatcher, Rwenzori Turaco, the great blue Turaco as well the forest hornbills. Later on you will return your accommodation, freshen up and spend the night.

Day 3: Morning Tour-Return to Kigali-Departure
This is the final day of our adventure. You will have breakfast and then head out for a morning tour to the Gusakula Tea Estates and the beautiful Lake Kivu. From there you will drive back to the capital Kigali where you will catch your departure flight.

Chimpanzee tracking
With Gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes national park, Nyungwe National Park is another place where you can do chimpanzee trekking from. The trekking starts early in the morning and you are advised to carry some liters of water, long trousers, long sleeved shirt, rain courts, hiking boots and a hat. Chimpanzee trekking requires a maximum of 8 people in a group set out to track. The chimpanzees are used to human beings since they are nurtured into that.
Hiking
Nyungwe Forest National park is also a hiker’s paradise with 13 hiking trails and over 130 kilometers through the forest. Exploring the rainforest and discovering the various habitats within can take visitors a period of one week hiking through the different trail. Reserved hikes can take a period of one to eight hours in length and most can also be completed in case you are in reasonable physical shape.
Monkey tracking
Nyungwe Forest National Park has over 13 primate species with the unconfirmed sightings of the golden monkeys. Large groups of about 300 colobus monkeys are likely to be seen along the trail. These might include; L’Hoest’s monkey, the Owl faced monkeys, Mona monkey and the blue monkeys. The forest is also a primate country and you can also trek the chimps, the gray cheeked and the colobus monkeys in the ancient forest.
Birding
With over 300 bird species and 27 endemics found in the forests of the Albertine rift. Different species may include; Grauer’s Warbler, Kamiranzovu, the large blue Turaco and many more. Nyungwe is also birder’s paradise and will have a chance to see many other bird species and primates during birding walks with in the forest.
