3 Days Akagera wildlife safari in Rwanda
This 3 Days Akagera Wildlife Safari in Rwanda : gives you an opportunity to explore the only savanna game park found in the country. The park is named for the Kagera River which flows along its eastern boundary feeding into Lake Ihema and several smaller lakes. Additionally, it has a breathtaking landscape that offers habitat to many savanna species such as giraffes, zebras, lions, buffalos, leopards, elephants, spotted hyenas as well as antelopes.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Genocide memorial visit-Transfer to Akagera National Park
After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to Kigali for a visit to the Gisozi genocide memorial site. Here, you will listen to the stories of the 1994 survivors, of one of the most horrific disasters the world has ever known. Later you will transfer to Akagera National Park having your first stopover in Nyakarambi village whereby you will see the local women make fine looking Imigongo paintings using cow dung. You will proceed with your journey to the park, check in your accommodation, have lunch and then set off to Lake Ihema for a boat ride. While here, you will come across different water bird species as well as different aquatic animals. Later head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Morning game drive-Evening game drive
You will have an early breakfast before setting out for a 2-3 hours’ game drive to look out for the early risers as they such for food. You will head back to the lodge for lunch and later have another opportunity of an evening game drive guide with an armed ranger and looking out for animals that you might have missed out in the morning drive. Among the commonly seen animals here include; the elephants, zebras, topis, oribis, waterbucks, bush bucks, giraffes, elands and primates such as baboons. You will later return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Final game drive-Transfer to Kigali

Birding
With over 750 bird species in the park, the place is purely a birders paradise and a dream destination. Birders who normally visit this park find it more interesting with its vast birdlife. These range from the water to forest, savannah as well as migratory bird species. Besides, many of them are endemic to the park plus extremely rare and threatened species like the shoebill stork, Papyrus gonolek, the flycatcher, etc.
Nature walks
The park basically has various scenic sights that can be well appreciated up close. With guided nature walks, you are a given a chance to view different things closely compared to when having a game drive. While on a guided nature walk, an opportunity is granted to see exotic plants, colorful butterfly species, the still water in some lakes, water birds, smaller animals, etc.
Fishing in Lake Shakani
For those who may wish to do fishing for sport or for food, Lake Shakani gives you a pleasure. There are also some fishing tournaments that take place in the park every now and then and you could participate if there is one going at that time of the visit.
How to get to Nyungwe forest
Nyungwe forest National Park is located in South Western Rwanda close to Lake Kivu and Democratic Republic of Congo, with Burundi border in the South. It is also located near Cyangungu town, about 225 km and a 4-5-hour drive from Kigali. Note that, you can either drive to the park from Kigali, or fly there.
