Visit Bahai Temple & the Uganda Museum
After an early morning breakfast, you will start off your city tour with the Baha’i Temple. This is basically the only temple of the Bahai faith on the African continent, perched on top of Kikaya hill. The temple has got magnificent architecture, several species of trees, flowery plants as well as lush gardens. If you are a bird lover, watch out for different bird species since the spot is abundant with a variety of colorful birds with over 50 bird species recorded. Later you will proceed to the Uganda Museum which is the oldest museum in East Africa. It displays and exhibits ethnological, natural-historical and traditional life collections of Uganda’s cultural heritage. Among the collections encountered here are the hunting equipment, playable musical instruments, weaponry as well as archaeology.
Heritage Sites
After having your lunch, you will utilize your afternoon visiting the heritage sites of Buganda. You will start with the Kasubi tombs where the Buganda Kings are put to rest. While here, you will have a chance to encounter with the traditional Baganda ladies as they demonstrate the traditions like food preparation and the mode of dressing.
Afterwards, you will head to Lubiri which is the Palace of the Kabaka of Buganda. Here, you will also have an opportunity to learn about various traditions of the Buganda culture. You will also have an encounter with the Amin’s torture chambers which was used by Idi Amin to torture his suspected opponents during his blood dotted reign in Uganda. You will later continue to Gadhafi National Mosque which is the headquarters of Muslim faith in Uganda. Additionally, it is the second largest Mosque in Africa. As a matter of fact, the mosque was designed in a modern structure with magnificent features of art in the interior. However, the design was based on the cultures of Europe, Arab and African touch.
Here, the guides will take you around the mosque where you will be able to view the impressive art and architectural designs in the main hall. You will also be able to stand at the minaret which offers great scenic views of the seven hills in Kampala city. Later you will head to the African Craft Village that has a number of stalls selling handicrafts. These include; cane ware, wood carvings and small trinkets from around the country. You will crown you city tour with a walk to Nakasero market which is one of the largest market, selling things like foods, clothes, textile, etc.
